Barnett Shale

Since 2002, natural gas production activity has increased significantly in the Barnett Shale region of North Central Texas. Understandably, there has been growing concern among citizens that the increase in production activity may be contributing negatively to the ambient air quality. In response, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has been improving its emissions data from oil and gas production and is conducting in-depth measurements to fully evaluate potential health effects.

TCEQ maintains a database of all activities related to the Barnett Shale, including air monitoring results, on their website: http://www.tceq.state.tx.us/implementation/barnettshale/bshale-main
