Horizontal Drilling

Horizontal drilling has enabled companies to produce at a much faster and economical rate.  During conventional vertical drilling, the well bore only has access to a small section of the reservoir rock.  Oil and gas reserves tend to stretch out farther horizontally than vertical.  With the application of horizontal drilling an extensive area of reservoir rock can be exposed to the well bore.  Currently, one of the most practiced techniques is the use of horizontal drilling coupled with hydraulic fracturing to stimulate oil and gas production.
